Bad from the get go.,
I am amazed at all the reviews for toasters on Amazon. I am not alone out here trying to find one that works on a regular basis. I too was tired of buying a new cheap toaster every year or so and getting poor results. I decided to go for a more expensive unit and picked this Delonghi. First, be aware that the toaster I received has a huge black “Delonghi” printed on the surface below the buttons. It takes up almost the length of the toaster. I chose the unit for its clean look and this is really distracting. As with the cheap toasters, it does not toast both sides of the bread evenly. Is there any toaster that does? On the second use, the electronic toast darkness setting stopped working. When you plug in the toaster, it resets to 3. You could go down to 2 or 1 but then you could not go up again. You can unplug it and get back to 3 but there was no way to get it to 4, 5 or 6. The other issue I found with it is if you set something on the counter and just barely tap the toast button, it will start toasting. I must have set it off three times when I set groceries on top of the counter and I was not even aware it was toasting until I burned my hand on the surface. It is going back today.

|Cool looking and highly functional,
The DeLonhyi DTT720 was an excellent purchase. Not only does it provide a great service in the toasting of the bread, but it looks good on the kitchen counter. The features of keeping the toast warm if you forget to take it out immediately, and the classic ding indicating that the toast is complete are also well thought out features. The digital controls are also very good, and as with any toaster, there may be times where experimentation is necessary to get the correct “browness” depending upon the thickness of certain breads. While higher in price than some toasters, it is well worth the spend.

|Very Nice toaster,
I have had this toaster for about week. I used Oroweat Original Oatnut bread for this review. The toaster works perfectly. I have not had any of the problems described by the one star review here.
It has 6 lights for the browning control. I use the default, which is 3 lights. The fourth one is a little too dark for my taste. When you put your slices of bread in, you have to push a button for them to go down. The audible beep that serves as an 8 second pre-done warning is very low. If you were across the room or talking to someone when it went off, it might be easily missed. When your toast is done, it slowly rises up and you have to take both slices out if you don’t want the second slice to go back down while you’re buttering the first. It really doesn’t matter on that because all you have to do to get it back up is press the same button you pressed to start it. The toasting time for an 800 watt toaster is slow. With the 3 light setting, it takes 3 minutes to toast one or two slices and 4 lights takes 3 minutes and 40 seconds. The heating ribbon for the most part, does not glow red while toasting. This, I figure, will prolong the life of the heating ribbon but the trade off is slow cooking. The other “con” is that on the 3 light setting, the toast is little too light for me and the 4 light setting is a little too dark. Because of the cooking time on 4, the bread seems a little dry. The toast itself toasts evenly after the first few uses. Overall, I like the toaster and I’m going to keep it. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond and ordered it from a local store. They waived shipping for me and had it sent to my house. They have a wonderful return policy and send a UPS return label in the box.
